The James Webb Space Telescope recently released a photograph of the Eagle Nebula, which shows the “Pillars of Creation,” a group of celestial structures made of hydrogen gas and dust that are denser than their surroundings and are incubators for new stars. The photograph was created by combining captures taken with the telescope’s Near-Infrared Camera and Mid-Infrared Instrument, which bring different elements into focus. The pillars are illuminated by ultraviolet light from hot newborn stars, and the photograph shows the saturated hues and young, embedded stars that are present in the pillars.
